Lucas Flint’s Official Canon Short Story Contest

Think you’ve got what it takes to write in my superhero universes?

The Lucas Flint Official Short Story Contest 2025 has officially begun! From now through Labor Day (Sept 1, 2025), you can submit a short story set in any of my universes—Neoverse, COverse, MWSverse, or even The Merge—and compete to win some epic prizes!

CONTEST PERIOD:

• The contest will run from Memorial Day (May 26, 2025) to Labor Day (September 1, 2025).
• All submissions must be received by 11:59 PM Central Standard Time on September 1, 2025.

ELIGIBILITY:

• Open to all fans of Lucas Flint’s works, regardless of age or experience level.
• No entry fee required.
• Multiple entries are allowed, but only one story per entrant may win.

PRIZES:

The winner will receive:

1. Their story officially canonized into Lucas Flint’s universe.
2. $25 cash prize for the winner
3. Personalized feedback from Lucas Flint on their writing skills.
4. A signed, complete set of The Merge trilogy in paperback (3 books).
5. Their story will be published on Lucas Flint’s website, newsletter, and YouTube channel.
6. Acknowledgment by name (whatever name you feel comfortable with) in The Merge #3: Rebirth, releasing on Tuesday, September 30th
7. Runners-up will also be acknowledged by name (whatever names they feel comfortable with) in The Merge #3: Rebirth, releasing on Tuesday, September 30th

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

• Setting & Canon: Stories must be set in one of Lucas Flint’s fictional universes, including:
  • Neoverse (e.g., Superhero’s Son, Ashley Jason, etc.)
  • COverse (e.g., Capes Online, Villain Town, etc.)
  • MWSverse (e.g., Minimum Wage Sidekick, Fake Superhero, etc.)
  • Independent works (e.g., The Legacy Superhero).
  • Multiverse settings (any of the various alternate universes featured in series such as Dimension Heroes or Heroes of the Multiverse; or, really, any what-if story you want if it fits the rest of the contest guidelines. Please note if your story is meant to be a what-if/multiverse story when you submit it in the body of your email)
• Character Use:
  • Any existing characters, locations, and events from Lucas Flint’s books can be used.
  • Public domain characters are allowed.
  • Original characters are welcome, but must not contradict canon.
• Story Length: 1,500 – 7,500 words.
• Style & Voice: While the story should fit within the established canon, contestants may use their own writing style.
• Canon Compliance: Lucas Flint will edit the winning story as needed to ensure consistency with established canon before publication.
• AI Usage:
  • AI tools (e.g., for brainstorming, outlining, revising, editing) are allowed.
  • Fully AI-generated stories will not be automatically disqualified, but contestants are strongly encouraged to revise AI-generated content to reflect their own creativity and storytelling voice before submitting.

SUBMISSION PROCESS:

• Submit your story via email to contest@lucasflint.com with the subject line: [Short Story Contest Entry – Your Name]
• Attach the story as a .docx (Word document), .odt, or .pdf file.
• Include in the body of the email:
  • Your name or pen name
  • Title of your story
  • Which universe your story is set in
  • (If a multiverse/what-if story) The point in canon where the story diverges

JUDUGING CRITERIA:

Stories will be judged based on:

1. Adherence to canon (Does it fit within Lucas Flint’s established universes?)
2. Creativity & originality (Does it add something fresh to the universe?)
3. Engaging storytelling (Is it well-paced, immersive, and entertaining?)
4. Writing quality (Grammar, clarity, and style)

Lucas Flint will review all entries. The winner will be announced in October 2025.
